Fyoozd 2 – What Gameplay Features Would You Like To See?

February 23, 2013

Filed under: Games — Simon Walklate

It’s been roughly 18 months since the release of our unique take on Match 3 puzzle games Fyoozd. It started as a quick 2 week experimental game project and I certainly wasn’t expecting the kind of success it’s achieved.

It’s gets over 30,000 plays per day (with a roughly 90% return rate) and that number is steadily going up day by day. Not bad for a game that was literally thrown together. I think it’s about time to think about developing the idea and create an improved sequel.

The original game was kept simple, just because it was such a huge departure from how people expect match 3 puzzle games to work. I did originally intend to include power ups and some other extras, but at the time just felt it would make the game too complicated. Now the game has clearly been picked up and is loved by so many, I don’t think it’s such a big issue. Or maybe I’m just underestimating player’s ability to grasp how to play.

Anyway, I’ve been going through player feedback lately and there seem to be some common suggestions that come up (most notably the desire to extend or ditch the time limit). I’d really like to hear what you think, what you like about the original game, what you don’t like and what you’d like to see in the sequel. I also expect to have the game in open beta testing so you can play the game and make suggestions during development.

I’m hoping to start developing Fyoozd 2 soon and I really hope to get this one onto mobile platforms as well as a web based Flash version, so I’ll be thinking about designing with this in mind from the off.

Please use the comments below to post your feedback on the original Fyoozd along with ideas and suggestions for the sequel. Don’t be shy, I’ll be reading all your posts and you never know, what you say may have an effect in shaping the new game.

  1. Sarah Traylor says:

keep the time limit… it keeps me on my toes, you could have one without a time-limit, but it could be called something Fyoozd all the time you want or something like that… I like the 60 second time limit…

  2. Jamie says:

if it were 10 seconds instead of 60, it would be better

  3. Lacer says:

Please change the music… I get it’s electronic sounding but it is just too abrasive and annoying. Like the game otherwise. Just can’t hit that mute button fast enough.

    • Cupcake says:

Yes I really HATE the music lol! I always turn it off !

      • I assume you mean it gets repetitive, not actually hate it. I can see how that would happen as it’s the same 60 seconds of music all over again every time you play.

I think something a little less in your face and maybe some variation next time. But if the game is going to be extended that may go some way to sort out the problem, because it’ll allow for a longer main soundtrack.

    • Kamanjah says:

Yes, please get rid of the music! Sometimes I have the game load in a tab I’m not using and can’t find the tab fast enough to turn the music off- plus it drives my husband crazy!

  4. Michelle says:

If we could do more than three in a row, 4 or 5 in a row would be more fun. I personally would like more than 60 seconds.

    • Vicki says:

I like the idea of being able to hit more in a row and perhaps if you hit the largest, it adds time or freezes the timer for a free play. You could maybe have a special group connect that explodes everything around it for a mega score. The music is terrible and I usually keep it very low, but the sound effects are pretty good match to the action.

  5. Olivia says:

Special bonus generators….be able to Fyooz more than 3 generators.

  6. Delores says:

Make the string of balls longer for more points, instead of the max of 3.

  7. Cindy says:

Ditch the quirky music. I keep in on mute. Intro ads are too long. Increase the time limit by 30 seconds.

  10. Sabrina Carpenter says:

allow bigger combos instead of just 3 in row

  11. Trisha Holman says:

I would like more time or the ability to earn more time.

  12. sue says:

I like Fyoozd just the way it is minus the times when it slows down this is the best game on here please don’t change anything

  13. Robyn says:

I would like to have an undo option for my last move. I often say “oh crap” right after I do something.

I would also like to see a variable time limit that the player could choose – 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes.

  14. Echoreyna says:

I love the time limit, but you could always add a second marathon option without one. Variable time options would be great too as long as we still have the ability to choose to play the current classic version.

  15. AO says:

Make the colors easier to distinguish for the population that has red-green color deficiencies, the most common color blindness. The green and yellow are hard to distinguish as are the silver and gray.

Also, maybe throw in something like a multiplier that adds time instead.

  16. Christina Granat says:

You could include a colored clock with extra seconds on it that would be added when “fyoozd”. Or extra time added when a certain score is reached.

  17. Barbara says:

Keep the time limit, but it would be nice if there are 4 or 5 of the same color in a row to be able to click on them all, not just three. Maybe for longer rows something special could happen, e.g. all that color disappear, time freezes, etc.

  18. Rachel says:

it would be a lot better if there was more variety in the boosts (such as blowing up a row/column, maybe blowing up surrounding blocks, special power-ups once you hit a certain score, etc).

  19. Heather says:

I would like the option to play an “un-timed” game.

  20. Kingsly says:

You could award an extra 10 second bonus if a player exceeded a certain point total, or hit a 4X4X4. Or, you could increase the number of 4Xes if a player reached a certain score in the first 30 or 40 sconds.

  21. Joanne Johnson says:

Add the opportunity to add time – perhaps by reaching a certain score or make a certain combination.

  22. Kingsly says:

Please leave the high score list on the screen longer, or add a button at the end of the game so you can call it up. The scoreboard flashes by so quickly you can’t see anything.

  23. Sarah says:

Don’t have a limit to the number of balls you can take out at once. You could have some seriously high scores if you could get 4 or 5 of the same color in a row!

  24. Sarah says:

If you got 3 bubbles that all had an “_x” in a row it would give you a bonus 10 seconds to play.

  25. Jennifer says:

What if instead you put in a little clock that, when it was lined up with 2 like colors, acted as a third link and boosted the time by 15 seconds.

  26. Jimmy says:

I really love this game and I don’t think you should change much. Mainly I think the graphics could use a little polish. I think the title screen is a bit cheesy and maybe there could be a bit more depth added to the game itself.

I really love the time limit as it is and the easy to pick up gameplay. As for adding something more, the only thing I can think of that would fit really well is if you get three of the same colors all with multipliers is you get a secondary multiplier applied afterward for like 5 or 10 seconds.

  27. ellie says:

it would be nice if the time was a tad longer or maybe you can make levels like once you get to X score you move on and so on

  28. Teresa says:

I think it would be fun if different colors were worth different points- maybe red and blue could be double or something like that.

  29. elight7777 says:

I would love to see this game have longer play time – I finally see great matches fall in and it is over. I see that the person above me feels exactly the opposite, which makes me say to them, play the original!!

If I am wanting a quick game I will play version I and if I want a longer game, I would play version II. So please keep the first when you create the second.

This is my favorite game here, by far!! Nice to know a sequel is on its way . . .

  30. Hariom Kumar says:

if there is sequence of four or more then it should be fired..

  31. phyllistarver says:

    great game

  32. Barbara W says:

I really like playing this, but I’m not very fast at it. I would like it to have the option of being timed or not. Or maybe select between a 1 minute and 2-3 minute version. I’d like to have a longer timed version that I could download.

Thanks for the game, and good luck in the new development.

  33. […] The Motion Monkey are actively seeking player feedback for the sequel, which is in the early stages of planning. You can post any feedback and suggestions directly to their blog here:¬†http://www.themotionmonkey.co.uk/blog/games/fyoozd-2-what-gameplay-features-would-you-like-to-see/ […]

  34. Mrsppmrxky says:

I would love to see an option for a longer timed game and the option to remove the time limits for those that are just beginning to learn to play.

  35. Heather says:

longer time limit and options to go to a next level

    • Becky says:

I totally agree, we need a longer time limit with options to go to a new level and also if a certain score is reached award more time, a wild ball is a great idea. Cut out the commercials and go directly to game and when game is over give option to play again. You could start with choice of beginners, experienced and pro players and you could also start with more time at begining and give bonus time each time 10,000 points is reached……….
      I LOVE THIS GAME !!!

  36. jweiss773 says:

I think that as you progress, if you hit certain scores, you get added seconds to your time. That way, the better you get, the longer you get to play. Make it even more addictive!

  37. garybos says:

I agree that the game is a bit short and that it could be lengthened if you hit a certain score, or get 3 in a row 3 times in a row, things like that.

  38. Sharleen Dion says:

get rid of that annoying music and take the timer away …otherwise it’s good game… <3

  39. Susan says:

a wild ball, use to make 3 in a row if non available…start with fewer colors, add colors to make more difficult as game progresses…add time if hit a certain score

  40. Shelby M says:

I’d like to see brighter colours and different options for background music.

  41. jason says:

i would like the ability to shuffle the board sometimes there are no matching colors close and no bonus points

  42. Bob says:

I, personally, would like the option to play without a time limit.

  43. LauraW says:

I dislike the music and turn it off always.

I do like the time limit but would love to have an option where you advance when you reach a certain score (ie-another 60 minutes) thus increasing the play time.

I too think an option of unlimited play would be good, although my preference is the timer

At the end of the game I like to see how my score stacks up to others but the screen flashes to quickly

Thanks for a great game :)

  44. Nadine Zachary says:

Everyone has about covered what I’d like to have, mailnly an option for longer playtime. Seems like I just really get going and it’s over. Also more points for longer strings. Also liked the idea of different scores for certain colors. I never really noticed the music, usually have volume down. Don’t do away with original version though!

  45. freesiafairy says:

I enjoy playing this game and also like others mentioned would enjoy having longer playtime. Maybe if you offered an opportunity to advance to higher levels, you could extend player time in the higher levels and keep the first level as is. I use mute to turn off the annoying music. It would be great to extend from 3 to possibly 6.

  46. Kamanjah says:

I have trouble distinguishing the pink and red sometimes, also the yellow and white. I have excellent color resolution on my monitor too. But, my eyes are getting old.
Would also like a pause button if the time is extended – I hate getting lousy scores because the phone rang or because hubby needs something.

  47. Dawn says:

I love this quick little game! If I would add anything it would be a pause button and maybe up it to connect 2, 3, and 4.

    • Unfortunately a pause button on a timed game won’t work. It’s just too easy to use it to cheat. You’d be able to just pause the game while you’re looking for matches, then unpause to make your move and pause again, effectively giving you much longer to play and making the time limit redundant.

  48. Carol says:

Time bonuses would be nice. And I like the idea of being able to do longer strings.

  49. Carol says:

I would like a longer time option. Perhaps choose your time, or progressive rounds with shorter time limits but higher points allotted for each progressive level.
