Action Adventure Hack n Slash Online Game Update

Been busy planning our new action adventure hack n slash game over the last few days. Got the basic story sorted along with some very rough concept art, I’ll be posting some of that soon.

We’re using a working title of Castle Nomis, just because we honestly haven’t figured that out yet. Castle Nomis was actually a (in hindsight rather rubbish) first person puzzle escape game I created on the Amiga and released as PD roughly 18 years ago, when I was just 15. As the object of this one is to take back the castle we thought we’d rip off that name for now.

Anyway, I digress. The game plot outline is you control the king who has been overthrown and banished from his kingdom by an evil wizard. I bet you’ve never heard that one before, eh? The object of the game is to single-handedly battle your way back to the castle, kill the wizard and take back what’s rightfully yours. You’ll start with nothing but the clothes on your back and a rusty, blunt, feable excuse for a sword. There’ll be around 6 levels, all different parts of the land, starting from the town on the edge of the kingdom travelling through the wastelands, swamp, castle grounds, the labyrinth under the castle eventually into the castle itself. Along the way you’ll need to fight off the wizard’s minions and creatures he’s controlling on your way back to the castle. At the end of each level there’ll be a super sized, extra hard abomination for you to battle.

Along the way you’ll be able to collect gold coins dropped by defeated foes, which can be used to buy armour and sword upgrades (these will increase your endurance and weapon power respectively). Health potions will also be dotted around the landscape for you to heal your battle wounds.

As I mentioned before it’s going to be using a massively upgraded version of the tile based top view game engine we used for the Cyberkill game.

I’ll try and post an update on current progress, including any artwork, so you can take a sneaky peek at how the visuals are coming along at least once a week during the project (estimated duration is 6-12 months).  So keep checking back. Oh, and we may even let you get involved with beta testing the game when it gets to that stage. In the meantime we’re open to suggestions on a title for the game and names for the king and the wizard, so if you have any ideas, please feel free to let us know.
